Great interest in Horizon Europe - Teaming for Excellence and Twinning Western Balkans calls for research funding

A large number of proposals were submitted for the first calls of Horizon Europe - Teaming for Excellence (Stage 1) and Horizon Europe - Twinning for Western Balkans. The deadline for submissions was on the 5th of October.

Teaming call 2021

Teaming for Excellence – Stage I

For Teaming for Excellence – Stage 1 (HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ACCESS-01-two-stage) the European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 116 proposals, with the requested contributions amounting to over EUR 1,57 billion.

According to the Work Programme the available budget for this call is EUR 180 million. 12 selected projects will be funded with an estimated EU contribution of EUR 8-15 million per project.

The evaluation of the proposals will start this week with the support of external independent evaluators drawn from the European Commission database of experts.

REA will communicate the results for proposals submitted to Teaming by the end of February 2022. Successful applicants will have to send a full proposal by September 2022.

 

Twinning call 2021

Twinning Western Balkans

For the call Twinning Western Balkans (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-02) REA received 128 proposals, with the requested contributions totaling over EUR 173 million.

According to the Work Programme the available budget for this call is EUR 21 million. 14 projects will be funded with an estimated EU contribution of EUR 0.80-1.50 million per project.

The evaluation of the proposals will start this week with the support of external independent evaluators drawn from the European Commission database of experts.

The results for Twinning Western Balkans will be communicated by January 2022 and the grant agreement for successful proposals is to be signed by the end of June 2022.

 

Background Information

Teaming for Excellence strives to support institutional building by sponsoring centres of excellences. These centres serve as models that stimulate excellence, generate new investments, and initiate reforms of national research and innovation systems.

Twinning Western Balkans aims to foster networking activities between research institutions from Western Balkan countries and first-rate counterparts from EU Member States or Associated Countries. The selected research institution from the Western Balkans will collaborate with at least two research institutions from two different Member States or Associated Countries.
