EU to co-fund 68 new campaigns to promote sustainable and high-quality EU farm products

As part of the EU’s promotion policy, the European Commission provides grants for campaigns to promote EU farm products in the EU and worldwide. The newly selected promotion campaigns will receive €143 million in EU funding by the end of 2023.

This year’s call for funding proposals received a total of 119 campaign proposals covering topics such as organic products, fresh fruits and vegetables and the EU quality schemes.

Following independent expert evaluations, the European Commission has decided to co-fund 68 campaigns of which:

  • 50 are so-called ‘SIMPLE’ programmes implemented by one or more organisations from the same EU country, and
  • 18 are so-called ‘MULTI’ programmes implemented by at least two national organisations from at least two Member States, or by one or more European organisations.

The proposals aim to boost the competitiveness of the EU agri-food sector, while contributing to the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork strategy. The campaigns will also run in accordance with the EU organic action plan and the Communication on the European citizens’ initiative ‘End the cage age’, respecting both safety and quality standards.

Campaigns selected for funding

The EU’s co-financing will amount to € 88.7 million for the SIMPLE campaigns. Half of the campaigns will focus on the EU market and the other half on non-EU countries such as China, Japan, the US and the UK. The financing of SIMPLE programmes is implemented by the Member States under shared management.

MULTI programmes will be co-financed with € 54.3 million. Successful applicants come from 13 Member States. The accepted applications will focus both on the internal and non-EU markets. 59% of the budget will be dedicated to third countries including Canada, the US and Japan. The financing of MULTI programmes is implemented by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) on behalf of the European Commission.

Next steps

The selected campaigns will sign their grant agreements by December 2023, kick starting their activity as of January 2024.
