Research Fund for Coal and Steel: Info Day annual calls 2023

The Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) is the EU funding programme supporting research and demonstration projects in the coal and steel sectors.

For coal, it supports the just transition of the coal sector and regions, in line with the Just Transition Mechanism. For steel it supports breakthrough technologies for low-carbon steelmaking, in line with the objectives of the Horizon Europe Clean Steel partnership.

In 2023, the RFCS annual calls make available EUR 40 million to finance the transition to digital, green and circular coal and steel sectors. Around 70% of the funding will be used to finance steel projects, while the other 30% will support coal projects.

The info day is an opportunity to get acquainted with the topics of the calls for proposals, discuss potential project ideas and network. 

The event is organised by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) in cooperation with the Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation’s Low Emission Future Industries team.
