MSCA SE calls 2021

The HORIZON-MSCA-2021-SE-01 call of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) closed on 9 March 2022. Following two years of restricted travel conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, proposal submission figures indicate that researchers are eager to take part in the new Staff Exchanges action to enhance their careers through research secondments.

The European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 209 proposals for potential Staff Exchanges from 28 countries. Applicants requested a total budget close to EUR 214 million, with the overall indicative available budget set at around EUR 72.5 million. The average consortium size of applying participants was around 10 organisations. This provides a fruitful environment for networking, innovation and boosting careers of researchers, the main objective of the Staff Exchanges action.

Projects will be selected for funding with the support of external independent expert evaluators, drawn from the European Commission's experts' database. Evaluations will begin in March, and the selection results are expected to be announced in mid-June. REA envisages to sign grant agreements with the successful applicants in November 2022.

Staff Exchanges - spreading MSCA best practices

Launched under Horizon Europe, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions’ Staff Exchanges fund short-term international and inter-sectoral exchanges of staff members involved in research and innovation activities of participating organisations. The aim is to develop sustainable collaborative projects between different organisations from the academic and non-academic sectors (in particular SMEs), based in Europe and beyond.

Staff Exchanges spread the MSCA’s best practices by enabling staff (at all career stages) to benefit from new knowledge, skills and career development prospects, while involved organisations increase their research and innovation capacities.
