In response to the HORIZON-MSCA-2022-CITIZENS-01 call, which closed on 7 October 2021, applicants from 36 countries submitted 111 project proposals. Collectively, the proposals submitted have a total requested budget of €30.7 million, while this action has an available budget of €15.5 million. Selection results of the MSCA & Citizens call will be announced in February 2022 and the grant agreement signature for successful projects is foreseen between March and May 2022.

Project applications will be assessed during October and November, with the support of external independent expert evaluators, drawn from the European Commission database of experts.

With an overall budget of €15.5 million, MSCA and Citizens seeks to close the gap between scientific research and the general public through the organisation of the European Researcher’s Night.

This initiative harvests interest and heightens awareness amongst European citizens and the wider public of the importance and benefits of research and innovation. Held every year on the last Friday of September, the event helps to democratise research, making science accessible to all through a series of both educational and enjoyable interactive activities.

The 2022-23 editions of MSCA & Citizens will also launch Researchers at Schools in order to strengthen links between research and education. This programme will enable engagement between researchers, pupils and teachers on important topics such as climate change, sustainable development, health and nutrition.
