What is the Soil Mission Board?

The Soil Mission Board is an advisory board to the European Commission. The Board is composed of 15 independent experts in soil-related fields with experience in either business, public administration, science, culture, citizen engagement, or civil society, from across Europe and beyond.

The Mission Board is expected to provide feedback to the European Commission from societal actors.

Ideally, the Board composition will be balanced in terms of geographical origin, gender, and public-private sector.

How will the Soil Mission Board work?

For a period of 3 years, the members of the board will advise the European Commission on how the objectives of the EU Mission: ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’ can be achieved. The new Mission Board will play a vital role in guiding the implementation of the Soil Mission, building on the work of the first phase of the Mission Board.

The members are appointed in a personal capacity and they will act independently and in the public interest. Mission Board members will be expected to work around 15-20 days per year and will meet at least 3 times per year.

Their work will be remunerated and English will be the working language.
