EU-funded research offers free ways for you to learn new skills and expand your knowledge. Check out our list of online resources below to get you started.

Looking to refine your skills, or gain further insights into a particular topic?  

Several EU-funded projects have developed free online trainings, tools, and resources to help you on your journey – whether it’s looking for a new job, helping you in your studies, or learning for pleasure!  

Some of the courses are specifically tailored to scientists to help you advance your career. You can also find more tools and tailored guidance on our Research careers in the EU page. 

All courses listed below are available in English and are free-of-charge. 

FROM CITIZEN SCIENCE TO PROGRAMMING  

The ECS project has launched the European Citizen Science  Academy. Here, you can access a range of trainings and courses that touch on different topics. From introductory courses in Python and citizen science in the classroom to social media management and writing training for citizen science practitioners.   

GLOBAL GOVERNANCE  

The GLOBE project’s Introduction to Global Governance is a seven-module Massive Open Online Course, or MOOC, on the different global institutions involved in global affairs featuring experts in the field.  

TRUSTWORTHY AI 

Looking to be part of the movement for a more democratic and trustworthy digital future? The AI4Gov project’s Trustworthy and Democratic AI – Fundamentals might be for you! This course provides learners with the foundational knowledge necessary to understand bias, ethics, and standards in artificial intelligence.   

SOIL MANAGEMENT 

The NBSoil project developed a six-module Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), focusing on nature-based solutions for soil management like organic fertilisers, cover crops, and more.   

EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM  

The OTTER project’s Learning Platform on education outside the classroom offers a variety of toolkits, guidelines and materials – primarily focused on sustainability and plastic waste - that teachers can use for science activities.  

GENDER DIMENSION IN RESEARCH AND INNOVATION  

Gender Dimension in Research and Innovation for National Contact Points is an online course by the GENDERACTIONplus project, offering insights into the Horizon Europe gender balance criteria. The course features video lessons, downloadable materials, quizzes, a repository of resources, and an evaluation questionnaire to track your progress. 

STANDARDISATION  

We need a skilled workforce to improve standards and standardisation in research for the better uptake of results. Join the HSbooster Training Academy and choose from beginner, intermediate, and expert level courses – start your journey today!  

ENTERPRENEURSHIP FOR ASTRONOMERS  

The SKIES project has developed a short introduction to entrepreneurship for astronomers. This mini open online course is for higher education institutes to support the career development of astronomy PhD candidates.  

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS FOR RESEARCHERS  

DocEnhance’s Courses on Transferable Skills are a series of online courses similarly aimed at PhD students, supervisors, and research bodies. The courses focus on career development with entrepreneurial skillsets.  

Coming soon: The COALESCE project developed an European Competence Centre for Science Communication, which offers guidelines, tools and recommendations to improve science communication for all actors in research and innovation. Join the waiting list for the platform.
