The Ocean Literacy Dialogues will take place during the Ocean Decade Conference 2024 in Barcelona.
Through interactive events, participants will explore the relationship between humans and the ocean, as well as the concept of Ocean Literacy, the core of the Ocean Decade Challenge 10.
Participants will dive deep into: Blue Education, Community Engagement, Cultural Connections and Ocean Literacy.
This event is a stepping stone to the Ocean Literacy Conference that will take place in June 2024, a prelude to the Preparatory Meeting for the 3rd UN Ocean Conference.

Monday, 8 April
Ocean literacy in Action - Poster presentation “From Sea to Plate: SEA2SEE’s Strategy for Responsible Seafood Consumption in Europe”
SEA2SEE’s partner, SUBMON, will show the results of a process applied to identify barriers to responsible sea food consumption in Europe in the context of the EU-funded project SEA2SEE.
It will feature the challenges and successes of this co-creation process that led to the submission of four digital tool proposals to help consumers make informed decisions when purchasing seafood.

Monitoring the Ocean
Organised by EU-funded projects ObsSea4Clim and OCEAN:ICE, the session will bring together experts from different areas in climate and marine science on a panel discussion, as well as a photo exhibition and networking activity.
Tuesday, 9 April
From Sea-to-Plate Traceability: Empowering Informed Seafood Choices through Seafood Literacy and Technology
Co-organise by EU-funded project FishEUTrust, SEA2SEE and a local Spanish stakeholder GastroBio, a round table discussion will address topics of seafood, traceability, consumer empowerment and seafood literacy.
The session will end with a cooking demonstration by the Spanish Michelin Star Chef Quim Casellas Grassot of the Casamar restaurant. This gastronomic experience brings the opportunity to explore the Slow Food movement and its importance in the preservation of the local culinary culture and the diversity of marine species. By highlighting his commitment to sustainability in his daily work, the Chef will also touch upon responsible consumption practices, seasonal foods, unique flavors of little-known species, and much more.

Empowering science, policy and society through co-design for sustainable ocean development, with EU-funded projects Prep4Blue, EmpowerUs, and GIZ
This workshop will provide a space for dialogue and learning on the importance of working across the science-policy-society interface for sustainable ocean development. Comprising inspirational examples, followed by working groups, it will showcase how co-designed transformative ocean science and knowledge has contributed to sustainable ocean development. Participants will be empowered to integrate co-design across the lifecycle of their projects.

Poster presentation
BioEcoOcean team will present a poster about co-creation a Blueprint for integrated ocean science. There is an integrated survey in the poster for the community to contribute to this blueprint co-creation.
