About the European Week of Regions and Cities
The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.
This year’s hybrid programme includes a virtual exhibition and online and onsite sessions dedicated to Green transition, Territorial Cohesion, Digital transition and Youth empowerment.

Data-driven Cities: Digital Technologies for Inclusive and Sustainable Decision-making Processes
The New European Bauhaus calls on all of us to imagine and build a sustainable and inclusive future, that is equally beautiful for our eyes, minds, and souls. In this spirit, the EU-funded projects URBANAGE and URBANITE are hosting an online workshop on how digital technology can facilitate participatory urban planning. Both projects seek to empower citizens; turning the public from a passive recipient of policy to an active agent of change.
The projects’ innovative tools and practises will be presented with the goal of building smarter cities that are healthier, happier and which meet the future demands of all.

Working Towards an Inclusive Future for All: Strategies and Tools for Public Authorities and Migrants
Migration governance and the integration of third-country nationals in host countries have been increasingly framed as key political, social and economic challenges which have come to the forefront of international political agendas over recent decades.
The EU-funded easyRights strives to ‘enable immigrants to easily know and exercise their rights’. The project will present its new approach to achieve this goal in the interactive online workshop on October 12. This approach introduces a new standard for service accessibility and is developed for immigrants, migrants, and public authorities.

Climate-neutral and resilient historic districts: findings from the EU Research &Innovation Task Force
The EU-funded and REA-managed research projects ARCH, HYPERION and SHELTER have established the EU Research & Innovation Task Force for climate-neutral and resilient historic urban districts.
In this session, Task Force partners and actors at the cross-section of climate change adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk management for historic districts will present and discuss their main findings contributing to the EU Mission on Climate Neutral Cities and the EU Mission on Adaptation.
The session will highlight the role that historic districts play in addressing the climate crisis, as well as innovative solutions needed to transmit their values to future generations.
The European Research Executive Agency (REA) is organising this session in cooperation with the Directorate-General Research and Innovation.

Achieving a Green and Just Transition with Citizen Science: The case of air quality
At this interactive workshop, EU-funded projects COMPAIR, SOCIOBEE (both managed by REA) and CITIMEASURE will demonstrate how citizen science initiatives on air quality can shape policies and behaviours to achieve healthier air for all.

Achieving the EU Green Deal through Responsible Public Procurement and Innovation
The EU Urban Agenda will also present the New Action Plan – a platform for procurers to exchange knowledge and experience. The EU-funded project managed by REA PROTECT will be featured as 'good practice' for cities and regions to make use of innovation procurement as a strategic tool in achieving Green Deal objectives.

Launch of the Urban Greening Plans: what it means for my city or region
In this event, the European Commission’s Urban Green Platform will be launched which includes crucial guidance, as well as a toolkit to support cities in developing and implementing their Urban Greening Plans (UGPs). The session will further inform about the linkages of the UGP initiative with major EU policies and about how cities can access key resources, including financing and funding.
REA is organising this session with Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI). Some of its Horizon 2020 nature-based solutions projects will be involved.
