The event is co-organised by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) - which manages the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) -, the European Association for Coal and Lignite (Euracoal), and the European Commission’s Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition (CRiT), implemented by the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER).

Description
The transition of coal regions is creating new opportunities for innovation, investment and sustainable development across Europe. Restored coal mining and coal-related sites can play an important role in supporting the deployment of clean energy technologies while contributing to regional economic diversification and environmental regeneration.
This event will provide a platform for discussing the latest policy developments, research results and practical experiences related to the redevelopment of former coal sites. Participants will explore how restored lands can support renewable energy generation, energy storage, industrial innovation and other clean energy solutions aligned with the European Union's climate and energy objectives.
The programme will feature contributions from European institutions, regional authorities, research organisations, industry representatives and beneficiaries of EU-funded projects, including projects supported by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS). The event will also offer opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange among stakeholders engaged in the transition of coal regions.
